San Judas Tadeo, or Saint Jude Thaddeus, was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ, not to be confused with Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus. He is venerated as the patron saint of lost causes and desperate situations, and is also known as the patron saint of hope. He is the reputed author of the canonical Letter of Jude and is sometimes identified as a brother of Jesus. 

Relationship to Jesus, he is described in the Gospels as the brother of St. James the Less and a cousin of Christ.
